Gachagua Fires Back Over Explosive Nderitu Gachagua Estate Row as Family Seeks Ruto Intervention

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has mounted a fierce defense over the contested Nderitu Gachagua Estate, rejecting claims that he sidelined his late brother’s family and insisting the succession process followed the law to the letter.

The dispute has now escalated beyond a private family matter, with the late Nderitu Gachagua’s family petitioning President William Ruto to intervene.

At the heart of the conflict lies a contested will, allegations of fraud, and accusations of political interference, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle over wealth, power, and legacy.

Nderitu Gachagua Estate Dispute Raises Legal and Political Questions

The wrangle surrounding the Nderitu Gachagua Estate has exposed deep divisions within the family of the late former Nyeri governor. Relatives have formally written to President William Ruto, demanding investigations into what they describe as a carefully orchestrated scheme to disinherit them.

In their March 23, 2026 letter, the family alleges fraud, forgery, and irregular management of the estate. They argue that the will used to distribute the wealth contains glaring inconsistencies and does not reflect the true intentions of the deceased.

The petition goes further. It claims that a close relative manipulated events over several years to gain control of the estate while systematically locking out rightful beneficiaries. These allegations directly challenge the legitimacy of the entire succession process.

Family Challenges Authenticity of the Will

The family has strongly questioned whether the late Nderitu Gachagua had the capacity to draft such a detailed will. They claim he was critically ill at the time the document was allegedly prepared, raising doubts about its authenticity.

According to them, the complexity of the will and the distribution formula do not align with the condition he was in during his final days. They argue that this raises serious legal and ethical concerns that must be investigated independently.

Their push for presidential intervention signals a lack of trust in the process that concluded years ago. It also suggests they believe powerful forces influenced the outcome behind the scenes.

Rigathi Gachagua Insists Process Was Legal and Transparent

In response, Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed the accusations as baseless and misleading. He maintains that his late brother left behind a clear and comprehensive will that catered to all beneficiaries.

He states that the estate included 21 beneficiaries, ranging from wives and children to other dependents. According to him, the will provided a structured formula for distributing assets, ensuring that no one was left out.

Gachagua emphasizes that three executors oversaw the entire process. Their role included selling assets, settling debts, and distributing the remaining wealth in line with the deceased’s wishes.

He insists that the process was not only transparent but also legally binding. In 2018, all beneficiaries reportedly appeared before a court and confirmed their agreement with the will’s contents.

The court then adopted the will and granted executors full authority to implement it. Gachagua argues that this judicial approval makes the current claims legally weak and difficult to sustain.

Political Tensions Emerge as Ruto Is Dragged Into the Row

The dispute has taken a sharper turn after Rigathi Gachagua accused President William Ruto of politicizing the matter.

Gachagua claims the president has engaged some family members and allegedly suggested he could reverse parts of the estate distribution. He strongly disputes this, arguing that no president has the legal authority to overturn a court-sanctioned succession process.

He describes such claims as misleading and dangerous, warning that they create false hope among dissatisfied relatives. According to him, succession matters fall strictly under the jurisdiction of the courts, not political offices.

Gachagua also questions the timing of the renewed dispute. He points out that the estate was settled eight years ago and remained uncontested during that period. He now believes the sudden resurgence of complaints is politically driven rather than legally grounded.

This accusation introduces a broader dimension to the saga. What started as a family inheritance dispute now risks evolving into a political confrontation involving the highest office in the country.

The Nderitu Gachagua estate controversy now sits at a volatile intersection of law, family conflict, and politics. On one side, relatives demand accountability and claim they were pushed out through manipulation. On the other, Rigathi Gachagua stands firm, armed with a court-backed process he insists closed the matter years ago.

What happens next will likely depend on whether the courts revisit the case or whether political pressure reshapes the narrative. Either way, the battle over the estate has already exposed fractures that go far beyond inheritance, raising serious questions about trust, power, and the limits of political influence in private legal matters.
