The debate over ODM Youth Leadership refuses to settle, even after the Orange Democratic Movement moved to clarify who holds the party’s youth mantle. Four days after ODM confirmed Johnmark Ketorah as the legitimate Youth League President, activist Kasmuel McOure stepped forward to address growing rumours about his alleged bid for the same role.
He denied seeking the presidency and dismissed claims linking him to a takeover plot. Instead, he portrayed himself as a loyal party worker committed to growth, unity, and strengthening ODM from the ground up.

ODM Youth Leadership Debate Gains New Energy
ODM’s clarification on November 15 reignited interest in the contested youth leadership structure. The party publicly affirmed that Johnmark Ketorah remained the rightful Youth League President, urging supporters to ignore promotional material that listed Kasmuel McOure in the same position. Though ODM intended to end the confusion, the message triggered a wave of speculation about internal youth politics, prompting Kasmuel to publicly declare that he had no intention of pursuing the position.
Kasmuel, speaking on November 18, said he had no reason to chase titles when his main mission was to help ODM grow. He framed his membership in the party as an act of loyalty rather than ambition and insisted that he valued service over hierarchy. He told supporters and critics that he joined ODM because he believed in the movement and the hard work required to sustain it.
He stated that no job in ODM was beneath him, arguing that the real labour of maintaining a party came from those willing to work without constant praise. He added that his role, whatever it may be, must always reflect the will of the party’s leadership. He also made it clear that he would continue operating with humility and allow those in authority to execute their mandates.
While Kasmuel rejected the accusations circulating since ODM’s anniversary event, he also used the moment to urge the party to nurture fresh political talent, especially young people who had dedicated their time and energy to defending the movement.
Confusion Driven by ODM Anniversary Publication
The controversy stemmed from a publication circulated during the party’s 20th Anniversary celebrations. The document listed several names and positions, among them Kasmuel, who appeared under youth leadership roles. The list spread quickly online, leading many to believe that a silent shake-up had taken place within the ODM Youth Leadership.
ODM responded firmly. The party declared Ketorah the only valid Youth League President and dismissed the anniversary list as misleading. This created an impression of factional interference, which prompted supporters to push Kasmuel to clarify his position. He responded by dismissing claims of a power bid and said that any suggestion portraying him as eyeing Ketorah’s seat was false.
Kasmuel Highlights True Meaning of Service in ODM
Kasmuel used the opportunity to communicate a deeper message about commitment within ODM Youth Leadership. He claimed that true service was not about climbing ranks but contributing to a movement that needed hardworking members who could defend it from political attacks. He said the party required energy, unity, and a strong volunteer spirit to remain vibrant.
His remarks echoed frustrations shared by many young ODM supporters who feel overlooked despite their loyalty. Kasmuel said numerous unsung youth had kept the party alive in tough seasons, yet they rarely received recognition. He urged the leadership to create space for upcoming talent that could push ODM into a more competitive future.
He also emphasized that the party needed consensus builders who understood teamwork. In his view, the youth wing should be a force that amplifies ODM’s dreams rather than distracting the movement with internal rivalries.
A Loyal Activist Without a Formal ODM Post
Despite his active role in ODM circles, Kasmuel admitted that he currently holds no official position in the party. However, he has remained visible, vocal, and influential among younger supporters. Last year, Raila Odinga appointed him to the youth and student league, giving him a foundation in ODM grassroots politics.
Even so, Kasmuel said titles mattered little to him. What mattered was the mission to build a stronger party. He pushed back against claims that he was attempting to undermine Ketorah or force a leadership contest. Instead, he reiterated his commitment to follow ODM’s structure and support those appointed to lead.
His decision to step back from the controversy shows an attempt to protect ODM’s unity at a time when youth politics often threatens to overshadow the broader national agenda.
