Seven people were arrested at Harambee House in Nairobi after detectives disrupted a meeting linked to a fake government ambulance tender that allegedly defrauded a Swedish businessman of about Sh60 million.
The suspects are Micheal Musyoki Ngumbi, Evans Simotwo, Geoffrey Were Odondi, Allan Mutahi Kariuki, Purity Njeri Njamiu, Jared Muniaro Masinde and Kororia Simatwa.
Detectives arrested them on the 12th floor while they were reportedly negotiating another deal.
Police say the group tricked a Swedish businessman, Talar Zaitoun, into believing he had secured a government contract to supply 500 ambulances worth over $36 million.
He had already paid about $470,750 through bank transfers to an account linked to a lawyer who is now being sought.
Investigators say the suspects used forged documents and impersonated senior government officials, even holding meetings at Harambee House to make the deal appear legitimate.
The court allowed police to detain the suspects for five days as investigations continue.
Authorities say more arrests could follow as detectives trace the money trail and investigate how meetings linked to the fraud were held inside the Office of the President.
