Saint-Gobain Africa Names Aymeric d’Ydewalle as New CEO

Belgian engineer brings decade of global experience to lead construction giant’s African operations

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Construction materials leader Saint-Gobain has appointed Aymeric d’Ydewalle as Chief Executive Officer of its African operations, effective July 2025, the company announced today.

The Belgian national succeeds Othman Benjelloun-Touimi and brings more than a decade of experience across Saint-Gobain’s global operations to the role. D’Ydewalle, who holds degrees in electromechanical engineering and strategic management, joined the French multinational in 2012 through its graduate program in Belgium.

His career trajectory spans multiple continents and business units, including roles as Innovation Manager in Germany, Head of Mergers & Acquisitions in Belgium, and most recently as General Manager of Advanced Ceramic Composites overseeing operations in Europe, the United States, and Asia.

“I’m naturally driven by discovery, connecting with others, and the desire to contribute meaningfully,” d’Ydewalle said in a statement. “What excites me most is the chance to contribute to something truly meaningful, and build on the strong momentum already created across Africa.”

The new CEO is currently touring Saint-Gobain’s facilities across South Africa and the broader continent as part of his transition into the role. The company operates manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and sales offices throughout Southern Africa, East Africa, West Africa, and the Indian Ocean region.

Saint-Gobain Africa has been implementing the company’s “Make it in Africa to Build Africa” (MABA) initiative, which emphasizes local production and community development. Under d’Ydewalle’s leadership, the division plans to continue its focus on customer service, local embedding, and innovation-driven solutions.

The appointment comes as Saint-Gobain, which reported €46.6 billion in sales in 2024, continues expanding its presence in Africa’s growing construction and infrastructure markets. The 360-year-old company employs more than 161,000 people globally across 80 countries and has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

D’Ydewalle emphasized his commitment to fostering “a culture of trust, empowerment, collaboration and self-awareness” while working to advance sustainability and community development initiatives across the continent.

The leadership change reflects Saint-Gobain’s continued investment in African markets, where rapid urbanization and infrastructure development present significant growth opportunities for sustainable construction solutions.
