The Ministry of Education has announced immediate Grade 10 placement for over one million learners following the release of the 2025 KJSEA results. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba confirmed that students will report to their assigned schools next month, with placements based on performance and chosen career pathways.
Parents and teachers are urged to access the KNEC portal to review results and pathway selections. The ministry has provided a two-week window for any concerns regarding placements to ensure all learners are accurately and fairly positioned.

Grade 10 Placement Process and Reporting Details
The Ministry of Education has officially opened the Grade 10 placement process, guiding learners and parents through reporting procedures set for January 2026. Education CS Julius Ogamba announced the placements while releasing the 2025 KJSEA results at KNEC headquarters, Mtihani House, on December 11.
The process will take place over the next two weeks, allowing learners to access results and school assignments through the official KNEC portal kjsea.knec.ac.ke.
Placement decisions follow the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which categorizes learners into four career pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, Arts, and Sports Sciences.
CS Ogamba explained that 59.09 percent of the 1,130,459 candidates demonstrated potential to pursue STEM pathways, while 46.25 percent qualified for Social Sciences, and 48.73 percent showed aptitude for Arts and Sports Sciences.
The ministry emphasizes that Grade 10 placement is not solely based on examination scores. Each learner receives a comprehensive report highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and suitability for specific pathways.
This approach aligns with recommendations from the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms, aiming for fair and balanced distribution across schools.
How to Access Grade 10 Placement Results
Parents and teachers can access learner results directly through the KNEC portal. The results include not only scores but also guidance on the most suitable career pathways for each student. To check results:
-
Visit kjsea.knec.ac.ke
-
Enter the candidate’s examination number and other required credentials
-
Download or print the detailed performance report
The portal also provides a section for expressing concerns or reservations regarding placements. CS Ogamba assured that the window remains open for two weeks, and even after learners join schools in January, any unresolved issues will be addressed.
Reporting Dates and School Assignments
Grade 9 learners who have completed KJSEA will transition to senior schools starting January 12, 2026. Placement notifications will be available prior to reporting dates, giving parents and students ample time to prepare. The Ministry will also continue to monitor the placement process to ensure a smooth transition and minimize errors.
The Grade 10 placement process ensures that learners join schools compatible with their chosen career pathways. It prioritizes equity, mirroring the system used for revenue allocation, to maintain fairness in distributing students across schools.
Pathway Selection and Career Guidance
The CBC system categorizes learners into four career pathways to better align with their skills and interests. STEM pathways focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, while Social Sciences target fields such as history, economics, and psychology. Arts pathways include creative disciplines, and Sports Sciences emphasize athletic development.
Parents and teachers are encouraged to guide learners in understanding their placement results and selecting the best pathway. CS Ogamba noted that the comprehensive KJSEA report provides clarity on learners’ strengths and weaknesses, ensuring informed decisions.
